As the weather warms up, our wastewater lagoons go through a natural seasonal turnover. That means all the solids and gases that settled over the winter (including the charming scent of hydrogen sulfide) rise to the top and say hello.
We agree that “rotten egg” smell is a little rude—but totally normal and temporary. Just nature doing its thing through anaerobic decomposition.
So next time your nose crinkles, take a deep breath (maybe not too deep) and remember: it’s just the lagoon stretching its legs after a long winter nap.
